1850, Elijah is in Green Camp, Marion County, OH and gives his birthplace as
Ohio and YOB as 1830. He is living in the HH of Alexander Porter and Porter's wife Hester A. born 1814. It's definitely him though because he's in Marion and shows up married to Hester in 1860 in IND.

There is no record of the date when Green Camp township was organized, though it was probably while this county was attached to Delaware County. On December 7, 1825, a strip one mile wide on the west side of Pleasant township was set off to Green Camp township and on March 6, 1827, the south tier of sections in Big Island township was also set to Green Camp township. On March 5, 1838, the township was given its present limits by an order of the Board of Commissioners of Marion County.
There is some difference of opinion as to the origin of the name of this township. Some think the name is derived from the camping ground during the War of 1812 near the Scioto, which was a particularly green and grassy place. It is probable, however, that the name comes from the fact that a certain Captain Green encamped here with a company of soldiers during the War of 1812, thus giving to the place the name of Green's Camp.
John Straw (and others named) were squatters in 1820 (Green Camp OH) but none of them ever bought or entered land in the township.

BLOOM TOWNSHIP. Seneca county
John Straw, w. 1/2 n. w. 1/4 sec. 6, May 4 1824.

research notes: (per Sue Phaneuf)In 1840 in Green Camp, Marion County, OH, a John Straw was there with his wife, 3 sons [b. ~1825, 1830, 1835] and 2 dtrs.
Elijah Straw was in Green Camp, OH in 1850.
In 1860, there is a William Strew, 31, married to an Elvina [ Melvina Lefever], with children Hermen [9], John [6] and Mary [5].
There is also a Robert Strew, 22, married to Sarah Ann Garrison [16] with 3 year old Mary. Robert & Sarah married Apr 05, 1860, so I don't think that little Mary is their child. After this, this family disappears from the census.
By 1870, William Strew is dead and Elvina is married to Aaron Markley [m. 9 Apr 1867]
These men - William, Robert & Elijah fit in the age brackets for the children of John Straw of the 1840 census.
Perhaps Cintipha Jane Straw is one of John's dtrs?
