I have Russell's death certificate, stating Simon is father, I have him with a sister Betsy. I have never been able to find any more about his parents; mother is listed as Patty given or surname I don't know. (Ann McAllister on Ancestry.com message board on 27 feb 2000)

Also in the 1850 census is a listing for Russell Straw ae 28 (born c 1822) of Waterbury, VT who is living in the household of Edward and Polly Baker; Across the street and living in the household of Daniel and Lucia Blush Jr and their three young children is Heman Straw ae 21.( born c 1829) and Jehial Straw 18 (c 1832); both the Straws are tanners by occupation.
Russell's occupation is "shoemaker" as is Edward Baker's and another male living there whose name is Thomas (last name illegible) ae 18

In 1860 he was living with Luke & Eliza Joslin but they were in NH by 1870 with out Russell. Alvin/Russel Straw is no place to be found in the 1870 census.

Alvin married Abigail Guptil, daughter of Nathaniel Guptil and Olive Rhodes, before 1830. (Abigail Guptil was born in 1800 in Waterboro, York County, Maine, died on 23 Oct 1866 in Waterbury, Washington County, Vermont and was buried in Hope Cemetery in Waterbury, Washington County, Vermont.). The cause of her death was Typhus Fever.
