obit for Harriet Strow Bailey Fillmore, from Aurora Daily News, December 22, 1904
Harriet C. Strow Fillmore
"Pioneer Mother Answers the Call this Afternoon— Harriet C. S. Fillmore Closes a Long and Useful Life at the Age of 87 Years
Harriet C. S. Fillmore, widow of the late P. P. Fillmore, died at her late residence, No. 236 Grant Place, at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon, from pneumonia. She was stricken ill on Sunday morning last, and, though 87 years of age, displayed wonderful vitality in bearing up against the fatal disease.
With the death of Mrs. Fillmore passes away one of the pioneer mothers of Aurora and a beautiful character, beloved by all who knew her. She came to Aurora in the early days as the wife of Rev. Bailey, the first pastor of the Aurora Universalist Church, now the People's Church, in which organization she retained a membership to the time of her death. Two children were born to this union, David Bailey of Kansas, who survives her, and the late Emma Bailey Knight, who was the first graduate of East Aurora High School. After the death of her first husband, she was married to the late P. P. Fillmore, who passed away in 1888. She has since devoted her life to the caring of her daughter, Clara.
As active and energetic as a person many years younger, Mrs. Fillmore was about, attending to her daughter, until last Sunday morning. On Saturday she had attended the bazaar at the People's Church for dinner. On Sunday morning, she was taken suddenly ill while about the house, and sank steadily until the end came.
