Jane (Jennie) M. Young

"Jennie was born of a Roman Catholic French Canadian mother and a protestant english father in Derby Line, VT. Her mother was a colorful chaaracter and has a story all her own - like she attracted men, liked?, was Jennie illegetimate? premature? we'll never know. anyway Jennie was raised in a convent school in Montreal to be a lady - could sing, play the piano, crochet , knit, embroider, serve tea and was a "lady". The story gets a little fuzzy...he had his eye on Jennie and so it was that they were married.
Grandpa Straw really wanted to get his children back so Grandma Jennie, without any previous knowledge or experience with children moved into the house...in Salem with an upstairs and downstairs maid, cook and a laundress and when my mother was born, a nurse...grandpa had money. Grandma could play the role of lady. So they settled in...
Grandpa lost his money in the great stock market crash in 1929...they returned to Augusta and took in renters..and Grandma , the lady, took on cooking, washing and cleaning the house - as though she had done it all her life.."

Jane married Luther Gould Straw, son of Samuel Eastman Straw and Sarah Jane Hadley, on 23 Sep 1897 in Danvers, Essex County, Massachusetts. (Luther Gould Straw was born on 21 Feb 1864 in Danvers, Essex County, Massachusetts and died in 1949.)
