SPRINGFIELD - Richard A. Hewey, 68, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, at the Springfield Hospital in Springfield.
He was born March 10, 1947, in Bellows Falls, the son of Henry E. and Amber (Whitcomb) Hewey.
He served in the United States Marine Corps. 1st Battalion 9th Marines in Vietnam.
He was employed as a machinist with Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield for 25 years, retiring in 2001.
On April 28, 1984, he married Paula J. Welch in Springfield.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, coin collecting and his grandchildren. He loved the Red Sox and the Patriots. He loved history, especially Gettysburg, the Civil War era, and the French & Indian War history.
He is survived by his wife Paula of Springfield; one son, Christopher Hewey of Bayville, N.J.; three daughters, Melissa Barrows of Cavendish, Laura Hewey of North Springfield, and Amber Leslie of Granville, N.Y.; four grandchildren; one sister, Teresa Welch of Springfield; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Henry H. Hewey.
Friends may call at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield on Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield. The Rev. Gerry Piper, pastor of the United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Burial with military honors will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Springfield.
