It is with great sadness that the family of the late John Joseph Carroll Sr. announce his passing at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre, Stephenville Crossing on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at the age of 99 years. He will be sadly missed by five sons: Phonse (Lillian) of St. George's, John Jr. (Linda) of Stephenville, Joe of Stephenville, Adrian (Cathy) of Toronto and Paul of Stephenville; three daughters: Florence (Vince) Smith of Toronto, Bernadette (Jim) Polzin of Victoriaville, California, USA and Joan (Bruce) French of Penobscot, Maine, USA; two brothers: Patrick (Nell) Carroll of Placentia and Cyril (Margaret) Carroll of St. John's; two sisters: Julia Best of Placentia and Betty Spurvey of Placentia; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Ellen Carroll; son, Billy Carroll; daughter, Anne Marie Carroll; brother, Mike Carroll; two sisters: Mary Frances Walsh and Carmel Sampson; and parents, William and Ellen Carroll. Friends may call at Russell's Funeral Home, 57 Prince Rupert Drive, Stephenville on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, May 17th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Parish, West Street, Stephenville with interment in the Hillside Interfaith Cemetery, Hansen Highway, Stephenville. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre Bus Fund would be greatly appreciated.
