Dennis L. Schluenz, Sr., 67, a resident of Davenport, died Monday, March 16, 2015 at Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme Street, Davenport surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Funeral services to celebrate his life will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport. Burial will take place in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until the service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family to establish a memorial at a later date.
Dennis LeRoy Schluenz was born on September 18, 1947 in Davenport, a son of Edwin and Marie (Klipstein) Schluenz. He was united in marriage to Charlotte Jennett on February 19, 1966 in Muscatine, Iowa. They have shared over 49 years of marriage and memories together.
Dennis had worked as a machinist at the Rock Island Arsenal for 24 years. After his retirement, he helped out around Harlan's Restaurant.
In his free time, Dennis enjoyed being outside and doing yardwork, building ponds and flower beds, and growing cacti. He also enjoyed tinkering with his computer and most importantly, spending time with his family and playing Santa Claus during the Christmas season. Dennis had a great appetite for life and dreamed of owning a Harley Davidson. In his earlier years, he took great pride in his ministry to inmates at the jail.
He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte; daughters, Susan Harmon (Brian) and Celena Veal (Javier), all of Davenport; grandchildren: Ashley (Chris), Harley, Reannon, Maliq; great \endash grandchildren, Collin and Paradise; and a brother, Wayne Schluenz.
Dennis was preceded in death by his son, Denny, Jr., and his parents.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Genesis East, ICU Unit and to Dr. Edwin Motto for all the great care they provided to Dennis.

Dennis married Charlotte Marie Jennett, daughter of Harley Raymond Jennett and Myrtle McDaniel. (Charlotte Marie Jennett was born on 18 Jan 1948 in Davenport, Scott County, Iowa, died on 8 Sep 2020 in Silvis, Rock Island County, Illinois, USA and was buried in Davenport Memorial Park - Scott County, Iowa.)
