www.ancestry.com - message board - posted July 2001- LDShoger "This is what I have figured out about Joel and Jacob. I felt they had to be brothers or cousins as they were buried next to each other. Lee took me to the cemetery, so am familiar with it and the stones. After studying the notes I copied at the New Hampton Library on the Parson family, I have come to the conclusion that Joel and Jacob are brothers. I know Jacob is the son of Mathias & Jemima (Henderson) Parson(s), Jr. Jacob had several siblings to include a George Parson who also lived in Richland township, Chickasaw county, IA in 1870. It appears Jacob's parents died in Utica township, Winnebago county, Wisconsin. Mathias was the son of Mathias Parson, Sr and both were born in New Jersey. They were living in Ohio in early 1800s, with Mathias eventually moving to Indiana where he married Jemima Henderson Penwell. She was previously married to Reuben Penwell. Joel's death certificate states his parents were Messiah & Jane (Hillman) Parson. His wife was the informant for the certificate and I believe she couldn't quite remember Joel's father's name but knew it sounded like Messiah which Mathias does!!! So, it only makes sense to me the Joel is the son of Mathias & Jane (Hillman) Parson, Jr. which makes him a half brother to Jacob Parson."

www.ancestry.com - message board - Oct 2002 - miczoodsma@cfl.rr.com Joel had a sister who was also married in the same area (I believe Boone Co), and permission was granted by their father Matthias Parson. Dec 2003 - My gg grandfather was a Joel Parson whose father was a Mathias Parson - who also had children Samuel, John, Rachel and possibly Sarah by his 1st wife, Jane Hillman. Joel was born in 1823 - Mathias was born abt 1792. and - Looking for any information on a Jane (Mary Jane? perhaps Jane is middle name with some other given name?) Hillman who married Mathias Parson (sometimes given as Matthias Parsons) sometime early 1800s...had 4 or 5 children together, one of which is my gg grandfather Joel Parson, b in Ohio in Jul 1823. Mathias was born abt 1796 in New Providence, New Jersey...and I know there were Hillmans in that area as well as Montgomery Co, Ohio, where the Parson family migrated. The only reference I have to Jane Hillman is on Joel's death certificate - and on the 1880 Census, he states his mother's birthplace as Ohio. Mathias married Jemima (Henderson) Penwell in Indiana in 1833 - and we have no idea if Jane died in Indiana (or Ohio), or if they divorced, etc
Joel married Louisa Millard on 7 Apr 1850 in Belvedere, Boone County, Illinois. (Louisa Millard was born on 28 Aug 1829 in Toranto, Ontario, Canada, died on 14 Apr 1917 in Iowa and was buried in Richland Township Cemetery in Chickasaw County, Iowa.)
