bullet  General Notes:

Michael and Marie Beyer came to America very early in the vear of 1852.
They were the parents of thirteen children. Ten of their children having died in Germany before they emigrated here to follow their son Martin, who was in New York City at this time.
Michael Beyer died in June, 1868, and Marie Beyer died in March. 1869. Both deaths occurred at the now well-known "Beyer homestead."
The voyage from Baden, Germany, was a long and tiresome one, taking more than two months to complete their journey.
Excitement also came with the trip for after sixty-seven days on the water their ship struck a sand-bar which proved to be only three miles in distance, from New York harbor. Some of the passengers were obliged to remain on the ship for two or three days before they were able to be transferred by small row-boats to the landing.
After spending a few days in New York City with Martin Beyer, Michael and Marie Beyer, son Philip and his bride, Louisa Scheerer Beyer, and the other son, Jacob Beyer, proceeded to Water- town, N.Y., where they remained a week in the home of Jacob Quencer, who had previously emigrated here from Germany.
Jacob Quencer and Louisa Scheerer Beyer were own cousins.
From here they departed for Naumburg in quest of land.
They located for a short time in a small house situated directly across the road from the well-known S. S. Snell residence and at the present time the residence of Fred H. Weir.
They bought a farm near the vicinity of the present Geo. Scheer farm on the Second road in the town of Croghan.
T It was while living here they became members of the Evangeli- cal church of Beaver Falls and later on united with the Baptist church, near Croghan.
hat they were a church-loving and God-fearing people is very emphatic when it is recalled lhat they often walked the distance from this home on the Second road to Croghan, to attend the evening ser- vice after having completed a hard day of labor.
Here they lived about eight years and four children were born to Philip and Louisa Scheerer Beyer in this home.
Their second home was near the Old Brewery Hill, not far from the Baptist church, in the town of New Bremen.
Remaining here for approximately four years they returned to Naumburg and located on what has since been known as the Philip Beyer farm. This farm has been known as a "Beyer" landmark for over half a century being the residence of five generations and the birth-place of three generations of the family.
The present buildings located there were built by Peter W. Beyer, of the third generation, during the very last years of the nine-teenth century.
While in German training, Philip Beyer carried on the work of a jeweler but he became an expert mason and carried on that occupa- tion, assisted by his brother, Jacob, while the others carried on the farm work.
Ten children were born to them-four of whom grew to woman- hood and four to manhood.
Their young son^ Philip, never being rugged, became a victim of an intestinal disease, which developed into tuberculosis and terminat-ed in his early death, in 1885, while Minnie, the yougest daughter, contracted diptheria and died when only fifteen years of age, in 1887.
The remaining girls of this third generation were early taught the methods of housekeeping and homemaking.
Helen (Nellie), Caroline (Carrie), Elizabeth (Libbie) and Louisa became most efficient wielders of the needle and the results of the skillful work of their nimble fingers by far excels any thing seen in the needlecraft of these days.
In the heart of each, abounded the heart of true womanhood, which knows where its own sphere is and never seeks to stray beyond it.
It truly can be said of each one-"She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness
