When she was six years old she came to Kansas with her parents....on the trip one of the oxen died and the trip was completed by driving a cow and an ox..their homestead charter was signed by Abraham Lincoln. They first built a sod house, then one of logs and finally a large stone house which still stands on the farm...Miss Dorflinger remembers how frightened they were of the Indians....her mother would bake pies and donuts o sell to soldiers as they moved from Ft. Riley to Ft. Dodge....when she was eight she had a high fever which made her blind in one eye and cripled..her mother rubbed the limbs and she overcame the crippling...in 1948 she fell and broke a hip...
