I came across your website while doing research on my mom's Christie family. I am particularly intrigued by your entry for Joseph Wallace Christie and Elizabeth Holley. I believe that Joseph is my great-grandfather. According to my mother's family and supported by legal documents, he and Elizabeth actually were not legally married; Joseph was married to Elizabeth's sister, Annie, in 1899 in Coatbridge. Once in the US, Joseph and Elizabeth had an affair and ran off together, leaving their son for Annie to raise. The family never heard from them again.

1910 Joseph age 33 b. Scotland and Annie age 30 b. Scotland and ch: James 9 b. Scotland and Robert 6 born IL and Margaret R. 3 born AL and Josephine age 1 b. Scotland and Howard ge 6 mos born AL are living in Birmingham, Jefferson Co, Al; also living in household is Elizabeth Holley age 25 born Scot who is a sister in law of Joseph and is single.

1920 census another entry for Joseph Christie with a different wife named Annie born c1880 in Scotland and Joseph born 1877 in Scotland with them emigrating in 1902 and naturalized in 1907. the children are so similar it seems to be the same man with two different wives. the Joseph with wife Annie is living in St. Elmo, Hamilton county, TN and children in household are:
James 19 born Scot who emigrated with his parents in 1902; Robert age 17 b. IL; Margaret 14 b. AL; Josephine 11 born Scotland; Howard 8 born AL and apparent twins William and Wallace age 5 born Georgia. These may be the two women you mentioned as Elizabeth Holley was Mary Elizabeth Holley.

Joseph married Mary Elizabeth Holley, daughter of Robert Holley and Margaret Ann Rodgers, on 7 Jun 1904. (Mary Elizabeth Holley was born on 30 May 1890 in Gartshenie-By-Coatsbridge, , Lanark, Scotland and died on 12 Dec 1947 in California.)
