Find A Grave Memorial 139127626 Mrs. Sydney Porter, 82, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 6, in Methodist Medical Center, St. Joseph, Mo., after an extended illness. She had been a patient at Methodist Pavilion the past two years. The daughter of the late Hazard and Hattie Patton Thomas, she was born Nov. 14, 1896, on a farm at the top of Blair Hill, south of town, and was reared in the Mound City area. She graduated from Mound City High School, Class of 1916, attended Maryville State Teachers College, and taught rural schools for a time. Later she was employed in the offices of the Missouri Service Company in Tarkio and Mound City. Her husband, Floyd C. Porter, died July 2, 1960. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Fred Thomas. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Helen Shenk of Lawrence, Kan.; one brother, Joe Thomas, Lamoni, Iowa; a foster daughters, Delores Simmons, Kansas City, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, Nov. 9, in the Pettijohn & Crawford Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Hammond officiating. Wallace Busch, Dean Heck, Carson McCormack, John Hatch, Don Patton, and Elburn Morris will served as pallbearers. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
