Find A Grave Memorial# 65363640 E. Straw, 88, of Lorain, died Saturday at Community Health Partners West in Lorain following a short illness. Born in Lorain, he was a lifelong resident. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed as a millwright and pipe fitter by U.S. Steel Corp. for 41 years before retiring in 1975. Mr. Straw was an active, 45-year member of Amherst Family Fellowship, a Four Square Gospel Church. He also was a member of 78th Division Veterans Association and a former member of United Steelworkers of America Local 1104, Lorain. He was an avid gardener throughout his life and he read and studied the Bible daily. Survivors include his daughters Sharon Ross of Vermilion and Janice Kessler of Mt. Vernon; sons David of South Amherst and Daniel of Amherst; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Christiane (nee Higgins) in 1977; parents, Park Foster and Bertha (nee Pries) Straw; a brother, Leon Straw; and a sister, Gladys Beetler. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Amherst Family Fellowship, 780 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. The Rev. Myrtle Eppler will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, where military honors will be conducted by Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
